Today was a better day for sweet Eliza!
We are on day 21 with Eliza, and I really can see improvement. She smiled so frequently today, I was just amazed at the change. She just seems to be so much more comfortable. Today she even tried the fish we had for dinner.
Tonight I was sitting on the couch and many of the children were in the kitchen with Mark. I take a couple of vitamins before I go to bed, and Eliza brought them into me with the biggest grin. I am just amazed that she knows my routine so well. She has really been paying attention behind those sad eyes.
Of course I said, “Thank you,” but she turned right around and went back to the kitchen.
As she walked away, I said, “You know I love you, don’t you!”
I couldn’t see her face, but Mark told me she was smiling from ear to ear.
God has just filled me with such a huge love for these girls. Sometimes it just catches me and takes my breath away.
Tonight she came in while I was folding clothes again. (Are you noticing a common theme here?) I gave her each piece of clothing that was hers, and she found another doll on the floor. She held it up to her face, and then made the sign for sleep. I told her she could take it in her room tonight.
More grins.
I just went in to kiss her and pray with her. She’s in her bed with her bears and babies all lined up next to her with pure joy all over her face! I kissed her on her forehead and she didn’t pull away.
We’ve turned a corner today with our girl.
Three weeks today. Not too bad for a fourteen year old who lived a lifetime alone.
And Evangeline?
I think I birthed her.
I promise I’ll try to get a picture of Eliza tomorrow!
