Today we went to Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Davidson removed Evangeline’s stitches, and I shared my concerns about the surgery with him. I really don’t think he realized how well she can walk. He has so many patients with Spina Bifida that he sees, and Evangeline is really not a typical Spina Bifida patient.
We did not schedule the surgery. We need to get another opinion, and find out the results of the MRI of her spine first.
The good news is she is walking again!
She is so happy about that, and we are too!
I don’t know if you can tell, but Evangeline is growing. She is growing out of her clothes! I’m a little concerned she is gaining too quickly for her tiny frame, but she is eating healthy. The pink sweats she has on make her look heavier than she is.
While we were waiting for our MRI appointment, Evangeline got to make a pumpkin pie with a chef from The Voice. The Voice is a live game show that is recorded in the Atrium of the Hospital and played in all the children’s rooms.
The MRI was long, and getting Evangeline to lie still was a bit tough, but we made it through and finally arrived home in the snow at 8:00 tonight.
And even though it was late, we had a few who just had to go outside for a few minutes before bed.
Eliza was excited about the snow too, and she did run outside in it when Mark took the trash out, but I wasn’t ready with the camera then.
There was one thing I noticed with Eliza tonight that I thought was a good sign. Evangeline was so excited when she got home and showed Eliza that she was walking on her foot, and Eliza seemed genuinely happy for her. They smiled at each other and exchanged a few words. I usually don’t see that. Evangeline tells me pretty often that Eliza doesn’t want to talk to her. So I thought that was progress.
We celebrate lots of little steps around here!
Blessings!
That is so awesome Diane ! I am really glad that she is walking so well ! One thing Emily told me was that they weren’t ever allowed to go outside in the snow. I gues the orphanage didn’t have snow gear for the kids so they just didn’t go out. Emily had to roll around in the snow and make a snowman the first snowfall last year. She was so excited !
Long day but progress! Wonderful.
Except for your long wait at CHOP… what an awesome day! =)
So happy for this really good signs!
Thankful for the good report! May you get better results from the MRI then expected!
