Evangeline is all ready for surgery and playing a Play Station. We are waiting to hear from the surgeon that he is ready for her. It could be any time today, but we are expecting it will be late morning.
We really appreciate all of your prayers and suggestions. Your faithful support has been such an encouragement to us.
I’ve received comments and messages from from many who are suggesting we get a second opinion, or encouraging us to take Evangeline to another doctor or hospital. I thought I would answer here on my blog because I just can’t respond to all the messages even though I wish I could hug every one of you.
The orthopedic doctor here at CHOP is our second opinion. On Tuesday we were told by the wound care specialist and foot doctor that her condition was very serious and they were concerned about a bone infection. The doctor there also told us that they had to take out the infected bone. It cannot be left in because the infection continues to eat away at the remaining bone and work its way up the leg.
The other issue is that there is not time to get further opinions. This is an emergency situation, and we feel we are in very good hands here at Children’s Hospital.
We are thankful that we have good health insurance and that Evangeline can finally get the health care she has needed for so long.
Thank you all so much for your concerns and encouragement.
You are a blessing!
Praying dear friend!! I know she is in a great place and has the best mama ever by her side. Praying for miraculous healing and peace beyond understanding!!!!!!

Awww, so sorry for the hard stuff of making impossible choices. But you are in VERY good hands – they have been #1 and #2 for more than 8 years running both in specialties and in general care. They have excellent Child Life Specialists that you can access to help you walk through the discussions and recovery with your girl. We had a sweet one when our youngest son had a traumatic injury and had to be life-flighted. The original plan was to L-F him to St. Christopher, but when we requested (in flight!) to be routed to CHOP, the trauma team and rescue workers were sooo relieved. They all prefer CHOP and that should tell ya something 🙂 Praying for you all today – and thanking Him that you heard Him call to you to parent this girl!

I will pray. God has this! He brought her through many years, to get her to exactly where He has her and He will continue to carry your sweet daughter.
I am so glad that she is at CHOP. They are excellent with so many Specialties and the team approach will ensure that nothing is overlooked. Sepsis is NOT what she needs and they can monitor her closely.
I can honestly say that I know exactly what you all are experiencing. A little cut from shaving my leg became infected. Over the next months, I had 29 surgeries, multiple rounds of IV antibiotics and eventually a below the knee amputation. That was in 2007.
Having said that, our cases are NOT the same. This surgery is to attempt to avoid that. But, whatever happens, I Believe that Evangeline will do well! She has a family to love her through all of this. And, she’s a survivor! I also Believe that your tiny girl has Huge things coming her way! He has Mighty plans for her life.
I will, again, be praying for Evangeline. For a successful surgery. Good pain control. Kind souls to care for her. And, prayers for your Mama heart! For Peace in your mind and heart. For strength and energy to care for Evangeline. For Wisdom as you advocate for her care. Every Mother has to do it for their hospitalized child, but yours is a special case. Request an interpreter if needed. Stay on top of her pain medications. Because she can’t speak English, you will need to be her “Voice”. As a former Pediatric RN, I can tell you that children do not receive the same level of pain management, as adult patients. Not dose-wise, but it’s a mind set seen in Peds units everywhere. So, if you see/sense that she’s hurting, call the nurses and request pain meds.
Okay, I’ll stop giving advice! : )
Love to All! ~ Jo
P.S. Give Evangeline a kiss on her cheek for me, okay?
