In an earlier post, I wrote about Eliza’s name. You can read that post here.
I never really officially shared about Evangeline’s name since from the time we got PA until now, our lives have been like a whirl wind. Everything moved so quickly that our heads were spinning. We just sort of threw her name out there without ever sharing why we chose it. So, I’d like to share that neat story now.
A long time ago, we watched a movie called Nanny McPhee with the children. The sweet young maid who eventually married the father was named Evangeline. That was the first time I had ever heard of that name. I immediately fell in love with it. I mean I really loved that name, and I began to ask God if someday I might have an Evangeline.
Yes, I am a dreamer.
No, it didn’t make sense. I just began praying about our Evangeline like she was definitely on her way.
That was before our daughter Olivia was born. When she was born, we considered giving her that name but it just didn’t feel right. So we named our sweet baby girl, Olivia Rose, but I kept asking Jesus for a daughter named Evangeline.
Then we saw our Eliza, and still she was not Evangeline. I can’t even explain why, I only knew she wasn’t.
Here’s the really miraculous part. The moment I saw “Melanie’s” serene little face on my friend Lori Cross’s wall on Facebook, I knew she was our Evangeline.
I can’t explain it any other way. I just knew.
I knew it the way I know that God is bringing our girl’s home to us even though we are still woefully lacking in funds. I just know He did not bring us this far to let it all fall apart now.
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 1:6
I knew this precious soul who bore such a story of friendship and abiding love amidst the tragedies of life was our dear Evangeline whom I had prayed for long before I ever knew we would adopt.
Do we serve an awesome miracle working God???
Indeed, we do!!!
When I think of what we had to go through to be able to lock her file, I just know God planned this long ago. We had to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she was ours, or we never could have persisted though the many “no’s” and roadblocks we met along the way. Mark and I just kept taking baby steps forward because we knew, in the deepest part of our hearts, that this precious one was our Evangeline for whom God had created a desire in our hearts so many years ago.
I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. ~ 1 Samuel 1:27
The name Evangeline means ‘bearer of good news’ and ‘like an angel’. According to Evangeline’s friend Emily’s mother, Evangeline took care of little Emily in the video. There were even a couple instances when there was violence in one of the orphanages the girls were in, and our Evangeline took Emily back to their room to comfort her and keep her safe.
Oh, be still my heart.
How fitting that her name should be Evangeline.
Below is the video the advocates made for Evangeline in their race to find a family for her. I share it with you here.
We cannot wait to get our arms around our precious girls!!!
Blessings All!
I love her name!
I came across your website through Adeye’s (No Greater Joy Mom), and the video made me cry, too… could I post the video on my blog as well? Not many look in my blog, but I would love to share about Evangeline 🙂
