Wow!

With our new agency, we can send care packages as soon as we get PA!

We are so excited!

Since this is our first adoption, and we are adopting older girls, I need some advice on what we should send.

I’ve heard a blanket is a great idea, but in the summer?

I’m thinking of making a little picture album for each of the girls, and I know about candy for the orphanage. What kind though?

So many questions…

HELP!

God bless you, sweet friends!

  1. We’re going for an aging-out girl too, and here were my thoughts: Instead of a blanket, I thought about sending a monogrammed pillowcase, because they could bring that home with them. Especially if it matched the bedding set that will be on their bed when they come home. I also thought about a locket with new mom and dad’s pictures in them.

  2. Don’t send anything that you can risk never seeing again. Last month I sent my 13.5 yr. old a care package with the following items:

    Ponytail holders
    pretty socks
    yo yo
colored pencils in a case with a sharpener
    mini detailed coloring books
    starburst candy
    toothbrush & toothpaste
    photo album with family pictures
mini art project from the craft store

If I’d thought of it, I’d have sent a tiny stuffed animal.

Then I had Ann of Red Thread send a translated letter and disposable camera. The things listed above were taken to my daughter by a family adopting from the same SWI ahead of me.

    • Thanks K! I never even thought of Chapstick. 🙂

I loved seeing the picture of your care package too. Great ideas!

      Thanks!

  3. send each girl 3 disposable cameras, our daughter loves to look at the pictures she took while waiting for her forever family.
photo album is a must. load it with pictures of every room of the house as well as each person in the family.
Hair ties, colored pencils, drawing tablets, things they can share with their friends.
    I hope this helps

    • Thanks, Julia!

Those are all wonderful ideas! We have been so busy working on our dossier and updating our homestudy that I haven’t sent anything yet. Soon!

  4. In response to your request for financial assistance, Stephen Curtis Chapman and his wife run a charity that gives money to help with adoptions. You can find it through google. Best wishes!!

  5. Hi there! I’m friends with Amy– she just sent us an article about Asian shame through FB. I just wanted to tell you that I am praying for you as you go through this process. We just brought home our 7 year old son in April. It has been a challenge and a blessing. God is good. He has truly blessed us. Please know that we are praying for you and your family.

  6. Sorry, by the way, wanted to give you input as well for care packages. Definitely send a picture album to each girl. We filled ours with pictures of his sisters, our home, where they play, vacations and other activities. It was good for him to see where he would live where he would play along with his sisters.in fact he recognized our house when we drove up to it the first time with him. Also if you have pets, put a picture of that too. Hard candy is good too (enough for them to share with their friends-we sent smarties) and stickers. Most of what we sent was for him to share. The picture album was for him. I read an article somewhere that sometimes what you send can make the other kids sad or jealous. So be careful in that area. Most of what we sent could be shared with the exception of the photo album. Also be careful with the wight of the package. Ours was the size of a shoebox and it cant be too heavy. Have fun! The girls will be so happy with whatever it is that you send. I’m dry excited to follow your journey and pray for you and these precious girls. Their live are going to change! (sorry for going on and on! Ha ha!)
