I’m sorry I am just now getting to let you know how everything’s going. It’s been a busy day with doctors, and support staff. And Mark is here so I have been enjoying him too.

Evangeline had a good night. She has been mostly sleeping due to the morphine and the Valium, without which, she is really in a lot of pain.

She’s sitting up in her bed up to 30* now for the first time and is going to try to eat a little Lo mien with vegetables. She has a sore on her lip and cheek from lying face down for ten hours during surgery with a tube taped to her mouth. As her face swelled the tubing got too tight. You can see that in this picture.

She’s also quite swollen today.

But honestly, she is doing fabulous! This surgery has been nothing like the one when the bone spur was removed from her back. She’s moving her legs completely. She does have some numbness in her left hip and stomach, and we are praying the feeling returns soon.

The doctor was able to get her spine much straighter than he had told us he thought he could.

Here are the X-rays from before and after.

She was measured for a back brace which she will have to wear until her spine heals, and they will not be sitting her up until it is made. Dr. Campbell is somewhat concerned about her lower spine and it’s ability to accommodate the pressure of the rods above it. We really can’t evaluate the success of the surgery until she is able to stand up, and they can take X-rays of her spine while she is standing.

The doctor may have to go back in and support the lower spine, but we won’t know if he will have to do that for a while.

Our pastor and his wife came for a visit today, and Evangeline was so happy to see them.

So was I.

Livi is a little better this morning. Mark said she was even singing. Her fever’s back up again, and she is sleeping now. But over all, she’s better today than she was yesterday.

Thank you all so much for your prayers for Evangeline and all of us.

Please keep praying, and remembering too the little ones at home who are really missing me.

Blessings!

  2. Hi Diane, just a note to let you know that I am still praying for you and your family. This isn’t easy for any of them. Even though it is only one child in the hosp. it does affect the whole family. I so enjoy reading about you guys. Maybe one of these days we can have coffee or sitdown and visit. Love to all and of course more prayers coming your way.

    • Jane, thank you for your faithful prayers throughout this entire journey. So thankful for those days in the nursery. Xo
