Evangeline had a pretty good day today. The pain meds keep her pretty comfortable most of the time. Her fever did not return, and she experienced none of the tachycardia and poor oxygen levels she did in the night. Apparently, a fever is pretty common after bone surgery.

She was fitted for a back brace yesterday, and they brought it into her today and sat her up. It was extremely painful for her.

Dr. Campbell used a lot of cadaver bone grafts that will take months to heal and become strong. She will need to wear the brace for six months. It needs to be worn tightly, and today she panicked and felt like she couldn’t breathe.

She does still have a big dressing on the incision site with two drains with tubing and a vacuum that may have made the brace more uncomfortable.

I’m only posting the back photo out of privacy for her because she was just in agony. The entire process was so painful. I even felt sick for a while afterward.

She doesn’t have to wear it while she is in bed so she is resting now and very peaceful. It’s my understanding that they’d like to get her up to a chair tomorrow.

Ugh.

Thank you so much for your prayers.

Blessings!

  1. I can understand what Evangeline is going through. When I was in my teens, I had to wear a back brace too. Different between us is that I had to wear it at night not day and hate it. So painfully to wear it and was relieved to get rid of it. Had to have a back surgery too. Surprised that Evangeline was allowed to sit up so soon afterwards. I had to lie straight on the bed for weeks. I hope recovery will go well for her and I will be praying for her.

  2. Poor Evangeline…. I guess getting her up is important but the pain… Hope it gets better soon! Hang in there Claudia x
