I just wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone who has been praying for Evangeline.

She is doing well, and just tonight has been allowed to start a little food.

She is still lying flat on her back and will need to be lying flat until tomorrow late afternoon.

She can move her leg slightly. She has not been able to repeat the one incident when she lifted her leg six inches off the bed. She does seem to be able to consistently flex her quad muscle slightly.

She is considered to have suffered spinal shock, and her progress may continue very slowly or completely level off. They just cannot say if the damage is permanent or temporary.

She typically has extremely low blood pressures, and they are giving her vaso-constrictors to keep her pressures high and support increased blood flow to her vital organs and spine. She is also being given methylprednisilone to reduce inflammation.

I will know more tomorrow, but I think the plan is to send her to inpatient re-hab here at Children’s for two weeks.

I think that would be wonderful to give Evangeline the best possible support to rebuild her leg, but I can’t imagine how we will manage that. I wouldn’t want to leave her, but that would be tough to be away from the children at home so long.

I don’t know. Maybe Victoria, Mark and I could rotate staying with her. We’ll have to see.

For now I think she has a couple more days in ICU.

It’s so tough to wait for more movement in her leg. I just keep seeing her the day before surgery. She looked so happy and exuberant.

We are really encouraged by the fact that she does have feeling, and even a little movement is a good sign.

And we are so very thankful for each word of encouragement and for every single prayer.

God is so good to bless us with such a wonderful support group.

Blessings!
