We didn’t dress up for Halloween this year,  for a lot of reasons.  My sewing machine needs to be serviced and just wasn’t up to the task of costume creation, and the cost of costuming nine children with traditional Walmart costume fare is staggering.

When I think of all the orphans who are just longing for a family, or even on a more basic level, just longing for food, the money America spends on Halloween costumes to further amuse the world’s wealthiest children gives me pause.  Not to mention all the hoopla surrounds a holiday that is one of the Satanic church’s highest holy days.

The truth is, what I felt my family needed more this year, was a chance to connect with friends we hadn’t seen in a while.  So we planned a fall party for October 29th.

My daughters made a cake…

and my daughter decorated it.

We connected with friends…

and chatted,

and shared our hearts.

We enjoyed the fellowship,

with our children all around us.

And we were oh so glad we did!

Blessings All!

  1. Glad to find your blog and thanks for following mine! I look forward to serving the Lord alongside you and your family! What a great cake you all made!! It reminds me of the one that makes an appearance at our Chinese New Year festival each year! Blessings!

  2. Thank you for stopping by my blog a few days ago and leaving comment. What a beautiful family you have. I felt very similar to you in the Halloween thing this year…it’s hard to watch big $$ spent on costumes when so many are hungry and homeless, especially children. We made do with almost everything that we already had on hand for costumes…and invited two families who live in the country over to treat-or-treat and eat dinner outside around the fire pit. It was really, really nice to just enjoy their company and catching up with neighbors as they stopped by the fire pit with kids seeking candy on that chilly night rather then focus solely on ourselves and our kids’ candy consumption!! 🙂 It seems like….God would be pleased to see an event that started from non-Godly origins turn into an opportunity for Christians to reach out in fellowship to friends and neighbors. Blessings, Jennifer
