Things are really hard for Evangeline right now.

She is not bouncing back from this surgery well at all. She is still flat on her back and in literal agony when they try to move her.

Her leg has not improved since the earliest movements of a couple of days ago. Her tongue was badly cut in surgery from the breathing tube and has been very painful. She has not been eating or drinking and is still requiring IV fluids.

She is not able to come home, and no one knows when she will be able to. At this point, she will remain in ICU until she is transferred to inpatient rehab where she will remain indefinitely.

There are just no answers right now.

No one knows what we can expect or how long it will take.

Right now, we are praying for a private room. Last night, they put a precious little four year old in our room who is virally sick with a terrible upper respiratory illness. I have requested that we be moved. I am praying they honor my request.

The kids at home are doing well, but we’ll have to figure out how to handle all of this moving forward. Right now it feels overwhelming.

I know we just have to walk through this. There is a way even if I can’t see it.

God has a plan.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and comments of love and kindness.

We are blessed, and God is good.

Blessings All!

  1. Diane, I cannot begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you. your family at home and sweet Evangeline.

  2. Psalm 130

    English Standard Version (ESV)
My Soul Waits for the Lord
    A Song of Ascents.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
    Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
    O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
    that you may be feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
8 And he will redeem Israel
    from all his iniquities.

  3. hi Diane,

So sorry to read this. All that you wish for is a speedy recovery and Evangeline coming home. I am in Athens right now, visiting friends, and we lit a candle for all of you. Thinking of you all from beautiful Greece! warm regards,
    Claudia

  4. Oh goodness…continuing to pray!

I was just (totally unexpectedly) admitted to the hospital with a lot of complications – and then while there they found more complications – and one of the few blessings was a private room. It’s hard enough to sleep and deal with such huge challenges as you guys are also facing, when you’re worrying about possibly adding complications, or getting no sleep, etc. (Although I suppose sleep in a hospital is largely an oxymoron anyway!)

The title of my blog came from the Corrie TenBoom quote – “God has no problems, only plans” – I thought about it again when you just posted about God having a plan…I pray He helps you to hold onto that. Especially in the moments problems seem especially plentiful!

Praying for your sweet girl, for you, for the rest of the family (and wisdom as you try to balance all of that) and for wisdom for the doctors, too…

  5. Maybe it’s not very spiritual of me, but my reaction to this post was “It’s just NOT FAIR!!” This poor little girl has been through so much. G-d must have big plans for her, but I doubt that thought is much comfort to her at the moment.

That being said, I continue to pay for her comfort and healing, and for you to get some lovely surprises throughout your day that alleviate the hard grind a little for some unexpected but positive moments.

  6. Ahhhh…. πŸ™ Hugs and prayers. I have not followed too closely. I’m sorry to hear she is back in the hospital. It will be okay and God will see you though yet again.
