Breathing Again

So much for my break.
I guess I really don’t need one after all.
On Monday, my sweet friend Stephanie showed up with bagels and cream cheese and dinner for my enormous family, just like she has consistently done so many times before.
But she didn’t only bring food for all of us, […] Read more…

A Break

I want to thank all of you so much for all of your prayers, messages, emails, and cards for Evangeline and our family.
You have blessed us.
I know so many of you are eagerly looking for an update, and I have so wanted to write and express all that is going on with […] Read more…

At Rehab

It’s been sixteen days since Evangeline’s surgery.

She is feeling so much more like herself, and her incision site has really healed nicely.
Yet, the damage to her leg has been severe. Everyone is hoping her leg will gain a full recovery, but no one knows how long it will take or how much […] Read more…

Evangeline

The days have passed and the words for an update just have not come.
Evangeline is healing from surgery. She is perky and sweet and overwhelmingly precious.
Yet her leg just drapes across the bed and hangs unsupported when she stands. It is improving, ever so slowly. She can move it with incredible effort, […] Read more…

Pressing On

Things are really hard for Evangeline right now.
She is not bouncing back from this surgery well at all. She is still flat on her back and in literal agony when they try to move her.
Her leg has not improved since the earliest movements of a couple of days ago. Her tongue […] Read more…

We Praise Him

As I have talked to the Neurosurgeon more and more, I have begun to understand more clearly about Evangeline’s spine and what happened in the operating room.
Children with Diastomatemyelia have a split spinal cord separated by a boney spur that penetrates the cord.
Usually, children with this situation have two healthy cords.
Evangeline does […] Read more…

Surgery Tomorrow

We have been getting all ready to leave bright and early Monday morning for Evangeline’s surgery. She is first on the list.
She had to have a hot soapy bath, be all washed down with antibacterial wipes and be put to bed in freshly washed pajamas and linens.

We braided her hair so it […] Read more…

How They Love Us

They bless us so with their love.

They are so raw, so vulnerable, and yet so absolutely thrilled to be in our family.

And that just makes my heart soar.
Tonight Evangeline told us she never wanted to grow up so she could stay here with Mommy and Daddy forever.
You can stay as […] Read more…

A Good Day

Tonight I am overwhelmed with the enormity of how God has blessed us through adoption.
I don’t even know where to begin. We’re on the brink of Evangeline’s surgery and just coming through a more difficult stage with Eliza, and yet I am intensely aware of the incredible blessing this journey is to our […] Read more…

Gearing Up For Surgery

Yesterday I took Evangeline up to Children’s for her pre-op appointment.
At this point she is first on the schedule for Monday. Dr. Sutton will remove the bone in her spine, and then she’ll go directly to the intensive care unit.
The doctor really isn’t sure how long it will take him to get […] Read more…
